I consider designing an adventure. I started my first explorations into design through toys, where I discovered that I actually enjoy fostering the fun in people just as much as making products to fill the shelves. I recently completed a Masters of Design, focussing on design research and strategy at the Institute of Design (IIT-Chicago), where I explored the playful nature of people to see how designed experiences might enhance their lives. I am now at Hallmark helping to create meaningful experiences for children and their parents through playful design processes.
I am especially driven when users are taken along on the design adventure as much as possible through; research, co-designing, and crowdsourcing… especially with kids.
I am very interested in exploring where digital and physical meet. I feel that this is the next great convergence for new user experiences.
I also seek every opportunity to help others start ‘toying’ with innovation. This includes; introducing kids to design thinking, as well as getting CEOs to give it a try. Which is strangely not very different.
